Good-bye Bo Diddley

Bo Diddley died yesterday at 79 years of age. Born in Mississippi he lived in Chicago, Washington and other places - carryng his new beat with him. Today the Washington Post Style Section front page has a large photo of Bod Diddley box looking his square guitar.

He changed music. He was "The Originator" of the new primal beat before Little Richard, before Elvis. He had a beat that stays with you and all the musicians borrowed it - for example Buddy Holly and Mick Jaeger.

I knew none of his particulars. And I didn't need to - I love his music. The beat starts my foot tapping or my hips swinging. It gets into your blood, beating with your heart.

Only the special, the unique arist could change an art form the way he did.

Thanks!
