We were grateful for a sunny day which makes the eight hour trip sweeter.
We stopped at the newish Viginia Welcome Center which looks very much like a plantation mansion. When you step inside the space swoops up to a vaulted ceiling and it is light filled. I walked into the Women's Restroom, gasped - and burst out laughing. It was white tiled, spacious and light filled - but for all that the architect only installed six stalls. I ask you, does that make good sense.
As I snapped this picture a woman walked in and did a quick double take at the lunatic photographing the bathroom.
"It's for my blog." I said.
"Oh." She was not convinced but I did not hang around to clarify.
