Winter Story

Here is a story.

A Snow Day
You have heard me. I wanted snow. I wanted to be snowed in so that I could hunker down. Well I got my wish. Yesterday it snowed. Schools were closed. A SNOW DAY!

Great! In these days of cell phones and battery fired laptops you don't even have to be as worried about having the power going out. Keep doing what you are doing. And I did.

Worked steadily, watching the lovely snow falling outside the window next to my desk. Whittled my list. That may be one down-side to working at home. You are always at work - well never mind. You don't have to dress-up, and the kitchen is near-by.

ICED IN
Today its iced.
CNN reports ice across the country.
Treacherous road conditions, accidents, deaths.

Ice scares me.

Snow is white and soft and lovely.
It brings a special quiet beauty to the world.

ICE is crystal clear, cold and deadly silent.
Ice can be a killer.

UNINVITED GUEST
Yesterday flu showed up - uninvited.
Jim was the first to fall to this full-vested intestinal demon.
Yuk!
Then Karen - sick all night.
Next?

A gh r r r r r r r r this is WINTER.

No, no, that's not what I meant.

Drat. Another old story proved out.

Be careful what you wish for.

12 inches of snow here and counting. Always fun to watch, clean-up not so much.

Hate to think of all that shovelling. Beauty always has a funny down side.

Jim loves our old Sears snow thrower. It is a relic of the days when he was what our daughter Robin calls "essential personnel." No matter what he had to be on the ward or in the office. Yearly check-ups keep it going. Its great with light, fluffy snow - won't help a bit if the snow is wet and heavy.

So sorry about the flu, Ellouise. We got ice and snow too--and rain and fog and light flooding. What weather!

Hope Jim is feeling better today.
